The world premiere recording of the string quartets of Charles Villiers Stanford (1852-1924), who played an important role in the modernization of British music, is now reissued on Helios. The Vanbrugh Quartet (RTE Vanbrugh Quartet) is one of the leading string quartets in Europe, having won the first prize at the International String Quartet Competition held in London in 1998. The quartet is the resident ensemble of Ireland's national broadcaster (Raidio Teilifis Eireann), hence the initials RTE. Sterling, the horn, is the principal player in the City of London Sinfonia and is also active as a soloist and chamber musician. Tokyo M-Plus
