Roland Wilson and Musica Fiata and La Chapelle Ducale, who continue to release albums filled with discoveries, each one a treasure hunt, present a new recording of religious works by Schütz and Praetorius. Martin Luther, a German theology professor belonging to the Order of St. Augustine, sent a letter of "95 Theses" in protest against the sale of indulgences by the Church. In his letter, he preached that man is saved only by faith, and that the Bible is the foundation of faith, thus setting the stage for the Reformation. One hundred years later, in 1617, Elector Johann Georg I ordered the citizens of Dresden to observe the anniversary of the Reformation. The record states that the service in the Dresden Court Church was a wonderfully moving performance of mass music, concertos, and psalms, among other things.The service is said to have included works by Michael Praetorius, who served at the Saxon court in Dresden from 1613 to 1616 and introduced the latest Italian music in the Venetian school of double chorus, and the "Psalm of David" by Heinrich Schütz, who moved to the court of the Elector of Saxony in 1615 and was entrusted with conducting the court orchestra of Dresden.
