On this album, Meyers showcases his beautiful and joyful voice in works by American and American immigrant composers, and he also sings works by Barber, who is not often sung by tenors. John Kander's work, with lyrics based on a letter by Civil War officer Sullivan Ballou, is moving. Finally, there is a piece by German composer Kurt Weill. John Matthew Myers says, "Each piece on this album has a sense of longing, separation, loneliness, or distance, as well as a longing for intimacy and connection." Tenor John Matthew Myers is a native of southern California and studied at the Manhattan School of Music.He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and other orchestras, and his reputation has been growing in recent years as a young tenor singer of note, as he has been featured in contemporary works.
