Works by young composers who have passed a rigorous selection process From LSO Live comes the fourth installment of the Panufnik Heritage Series. This time it will be conducted by composer Jack Sheen. Born in Manchester, he has conducted contemporary music with the LSO, BBC Symphony Orchestra, LPO, and Lucerne Festival Orchestra, and is making a name for himself around the world with his debut conducting contemporary opera at the Royal Opera House. This disc features new works by some of the most exciting young composers of our time: the LSO Helen Hamlin Panufnik Composers Scheme, which each year offers six composers the opportunity to write for world-class symphony orchestras, led by composer Colin Matthews and Christian Mason provides support. =LSO Helen Hamlin Panufnik Composers Scheme=. Since 2006, six composers have been selected each year from a pool of over 200 applicants. Their assignment is to compose an orchestral piece of approximately 3 minutes in length and take a workshop in a dedicated LSO session. They are mentored by Colin Matthews and Christian Mason throughout the year, are exposed to the orchestra and individual players, and are invited to rehearsals and concerts. Over the past 20 years, nearly 120 composers have had the extraordinary opportunity to perform with some of the world's leading orchestras.This fourth recording by composers who have participated in the scheme includes works written for the Composers' Workshop over the past few years, as well as works from the early years of the scheme, achieving a wide range of styles.
