Description:

A must for viol fans! In the 16th and early 17th centuries, viol consort music was very popular in England, and English composers gave top priority to composing music for this repertoire. English musicians who composed music for this repertoire gave top priority to composing music for this repertoire. Michael East (c.1580-1648) was one such composer. He received a Bachelor of Music degree from Cambridge University and worked as a composer, organist, and choir director at Ely Cathedral and Lichfield Cathedral in Staffordshire. His music for viol and voice was published in seven volumes, making him one of the most prolific composers of his time. Amavi (I Loved)," a collection of East's works, is a composition of anthems and madrigals interspersed with "Fantasy (Fancy) for Five Voices," which is considered one of his best-known works. The centerpiece of the program, the eight "Fantasias (Fancies) for Five Viols" with Latin names such as "Desperavi (I have despaired)" and "Peccavi (I have sinned)," appeared in "Volume 4" published in 1618, exactly 400 years before this recording was made. It was published in 1618, exactly 400 years before this recording was made, and was highly acclaimed. The anthems and madrigals for voice were selected from the same collection and from the 1610 collection, plus the madrigal "Hence stars too dim of light" from Thomas Morley's 1601 edition of "Oriana's Victory. The Fieri Consort, founded in 2012, is a British vocal group whose repertoire consists mainly of 16th- and 17th-century Italian music, sung a cappella and with ancient instruments without a conductor. Cambridge Prize" at the York Early Music Festival. The Chelys Consort of Viols is an ensemble of leading British players. They have recorded "Ayres & Graces" (BIS-2153), a performance of Christopher Simpson's Airs and Divisions, and "A Pleasing Melancholy" (BIS SA-2283), a collection of works by Dowland and composers of his era, for the BIS label. The album will be released on the BIS label in 2019. In 2019, Cheris appeared with the Fieri Consort in a concert at Wigmore Hall celebrating the 70th birthday of "Dame Emma Kirkby," with whom he performed in A Pleasing Melancholy. The album concludes with a new work by English composer and jazz pianist Jill Jarman (1959-), "Now are my thoughts at peace," based on a text by Sir Henry Wotton (1568-1639), a contemporary of Michael East. my thoughts at peace" will be performed.
