Norway's rising star Elbjorg Hemsing (Eldbjerg Hemsing), whose BIS debut with the Shostakovich & Borgström concertos (BISSA2366) is still fresh in our minds, is back with his second release, Dvořák and Suk. Hemsing made his debut at the age of 11 with the Bergen Philharmonic. He studied under Boris Kushnir, who is known for training Julian Rachlin and Nikolai Snyder, and his talent blossomed. With his elegant tone and large scale performance, Hemsing is now attracting attention as one of the most promising violinists in the world. In the Dvořák, he has an imposing presence from the beginning of the first movement, and he plays on a large scale with great enunciation from beginning to end. In the second movement, which is famous for its beautiful lyricism, he sings passionately. In the last movement, Dvořák's music is magnificent, and you can tell that Hemsing is enjoying himself.Along with Dvořák, Suk was one of the leading Czech composers of the 20th century, married to the daughter of his teacher Dvořák. His Fantasy, composed between 1902 and 1903, is a fascinating 23-minute piece with a melody that proves the richness of Suk's musicality. The orchestral interplay and the imposing solo violin are impressive. On the other hand, "Love Song," composed as a piano piece, is Suk's early masterpiece. Hemmings sings the sweet and graceful melody freely. This performance is recorded in the "Violin and Orchestral Version" by Stefan Koncz, cellist of the Berlin Philharmonic and arranger of the piece. Alan Bribaev, a brilliant conductor, also provides excellent support for this remarkable recording. King International
