Fazioli player Emmanuelle Despa (born in France, now based in London), who studied piano with Ruth Nye at the Royal College of Music and is a granddaughter of Claudio Arrau. He has built a reputation as an excellent performer of Romantic and Post-Romantic works, and his new album, which was well received by the public with his previous piano transcriptions of J.S. Bach (SIGCD665), features his most treasured piano concerto, Brahms, which he says "has been a dream of mine since childhood to record". It is his most cherished piano concerto and "a dream of mine since I was a child to record it", he says. With the splendid support of master musician Andrzej Litton and the BBC Symphony Orchestra, the Brahms is brave and gorgeous. The coupling also includes "16 Waltzes, Op. 39," a four-hand waltz with Japanese pianist Miho Kawashima, who is also Despa's wife. A more intimate and charming side of Brahms is presented in this heartfelt piano duo.Miho Kawashima, who studied with renowned teacher Ruth Nye in London (and thus is a brother pupil of Despa), is a pianist who has performed extensively as a solo & chamber musician in major London halls as well as in concerts worldwide in Japan, the Netherlands, Turkey, Estonia, France, Belgium, etc. 2019 She has been a staff pianist at her alma mater, the Yehudi Menuhin School, since 2006.
