TRION is a project band formed by Edo Spanninga (keyboards) of the Dutch symphonic rock band FLAMBOROUGHHEAD, Menno Boomsma (drums) of ODYSSICES, and Eddie Mulder (guitar/bass) of LEAPDAY. After remaining silent for a long time following the release of their 2013 album FUNFAIRFANTASY, they have finally reunited and released their new album, TERRATIEMPO—their first in approximately 13 years—via the Polish label Oskar! Even after this long hiatus, this new album openly expresses their admiration for the British progressive and melodic rock bands that defined the 1970s—such as CAMEL, Barclay James Harvest—the British progressive and melodic rock bands that defined the ’70s—and boasts a vintage symphonic rock sound that surpasses even that of Flamborough Head and Leapday. From the opening title track, you’ll be captivated by the rich keyboard arrangements—featuring a variety of instruments like the Mellotron, piano, Hammond organ, and synth—that create a symphonic expansiveness. This is further elevated by soaring guitars imbued with a Latimer-esque sense of fantasy, A masterpiece of symphonic instrumental music that could be described as a blend of British-rock-style heartfelt lyricism and the elegant, sweet melodies characteristic of Dutch music!
