Description:
A super-rare 7" by Eko, a leading artist of the African Disco scene, has been reissued as a 12"! Born the son of a Cameroonian tribal chief, Eco—also known as Eco Roosevelt—discovered his passion for music after traveling through various countries, including Paris. He released numerous works between 1975 and 1982, and has since returned to his hometown of Kribi to succeed his father as tribal chief. This long-awaited reissue features a single that Eco released on his own label in ’81. It includes two fantastic tracks: the A-side “PhoneMeTonight,” which combines catchy melodies with the hedonistic charm of ’80s pop, and “LobeMonAmi,” a soukous track with razor-sharp guitar work that’s absolutely fantastic. In particular, “PhoneMeTonight” has not only been meticulously restored and remastered, but the Yamaha DX7 synth lines—a hallmark of Eco’s sound—have been given new life. While preserving the spirit and charm of the original, the track has been enhanced to perfectly suit modern dance floors and DJs.
