This album is the follow-up to the first collection (Lalo, Keklan, Pierné). About the workBoërmant: Cello SonataPublished by Durand in Paris in 1897, in three movements. Boërmant died of tuberculosis that year at the age of 35 years and 2 weeks. Although this cello sonata was written shortly before his death, Boërmant was still young and passionate in spite of his illness, and it is a brilliant work that shows rich emotion in the powerful idiom of the late French Romantic period. Vidor: Cello Sonata, published in 1907 by the Paris firm of Ugell, in three movements. The work is in three movements and has a spacious and large scale feeling. The piano has a large presence. Dandy: Cello Sonata, published in 1926 by Roualt-Lerolle, Paris. Composed between 1924 and 1925, in four movements. A work from the last years of Dandy's life.It was also a time when he was making efforts to revive ancient music, and although this work is named a sonata, it is actually in the form of a baroque suite. The opening entrée is elegant. In the rondo-style gavotte that follows, the cello's pizzicato is enchanting. Yale is a soft, melancholic aria. The finale is a lively baroque dance gigue. (1/3)
