The Power Station

Description:

The Power Station was a supergroup formed by John Taylor (b) and Andy Taylor (g) of Duran Duran, Tony Thompson (ds) of Chic, and Robert Palmer (vo). With each member already established as a popular artist in their own right, the group’s musical style—which fused rock and funk while retaining a pop sensibility—was highly acclaimed. When Palmer left the group in mid-1985, Michael DeBarres joined as lead singer. As each member focused on other projects, the group disbanded for the first time in the latter half of that year; they reunited in 1995 but disbanded for the second time in 1997. Now, a live album by The Power Station is here! When they released the album *The Power Station* (original title: *The Power Station 331/3*) in 1985, it peaked at No. 6 on the US album charts, living up to the hype with strong sales. When vocalist Robert Palmer left the band that summer, they recruited Michael DeBarres, singer of the Checkered Past and a singer-actor, as his replacement. The band, now in its new lineup, embarked on its first North American tour, kicking off with a concert in Texas in May. During this tour, their July 28 performance in Los Angeles was recorded for the popular American radio program *King Biscuit Flower Hour*. It was broadcast on 200 stations across 15 states. This album is a live recording of that broadcast, capturing the entire concert, including the encore. In addition to hits like “Some Like It Hot,” the band performed songs from each member’s solo repertoire, such as Duran Duran’s “Hungry Like the Wolf.” The setlist also included covers of The Velvet Underground and T. Rex, reflecting the members’ personal tastes. This album captures the band’s final glory at the height of their career, resonating through a midsummer night in LA!
