Description:

Boris Giltburg performs the Rachmaninoff series. The 24 Preludes, composed over a period of more than 18 years, are a diverse collection of works that are among the most difficult to perform, requiring not only great technical skill but also a wide range of musical expression. Among them, Op. 3-2, known for its dramatic style, is one of the pieces in another collection, "Fantastic Pieces," and is a popular piece that is said to imitate the sound of the bells of the Kremlin Palace in Moscow. The remaining 23 pieces were written from time to time during Rachmaninoff's daily activities, but like Chopin's work of the same name, all 24 tonalities are covered, and none of the pieces have a similar atmosphere. Although the pieces were conceived over a long period of time, there are related motives hidden throughout the pieces, and Giltburg has been careful to identify and link them together (as detailed in the commentary), creating a sense of unity throughout the piece, and beautifully portraying the character of each piece. The songs are all unified, and the character of each song is beautifully portrayed. Therefore, many people will discover in this performance that small melodic movements that would normally be missed are actually foreshadowing the climax of the piece. The explosive outpouring of energy in the passionate pieces and the graceful touch in the lyrical pieces. The amplitude of this movement is also an appealing characteristic of the virtuoso Giltburg.Giltburg also wrote the booklet for this album, and the cover photo (two trees) features a landscape he took himself. The album is dedicated to the memory of his grandmother, Genrietta Millman. Naxos Japan
