This new Penderecki recording is centered on the "Piano Concerto" with Barry Douglas, the winner of the 1986 Tchaikovsky International Competition, as the soloist. The first draft of the concerto was composed between 2001 and 2002, and the first performance was given by Sabarish, The first performance was given by the Philadelphia Orchestra under Sabarisch, with Emanuel Ax as soloist, and a revised version was made in 2007, here with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra under the composer's own direction and Douglas as performer. The entire work is composed of 10 parts, and the title "Resurrection" was influenced by 9/11.The 1992 Flute Concerto is full of Penderecki's character, and the music is safe in the knowledge that this amorphous sound movement is not a reassurance.
