Description:
Alexander Moïsez, one of the leading composers of modern Slovakia, composed 12 symphonies, all of which are full of folkloric melodies with effective use of Slovak folk songs from his homeland. The 1930's "Down the River Va" was commissioned by a radio station, and the "Moldau" by Smetana was composed for the first time in the 1930's. Following the idea of Smetana's "Moldau," it colorfully depicts the river from its source to its lower reaches. Other pieces include a dance from the Jemaa region of Slovakia, with its vivid cimbalon sound, and a piece based on a dance from the Polonie region. The spicy melodies overflowing from the simple form have a lively atmosphere reminiscent of Janacek and Bartók. Naxos Japan
