Richard Strauss's Alpha and Omega, coupling works from his youth and later years】A collection of works by Richard Strauss led by the Trio Arnold, led by Shuichi Okada. The Piano Quartet was written when Strauss was 21 years old, just before he was awakened to the latest music of the time. While faithful to the classical approach, the youthful ambition of the composer is evident throughout. Originally written for 23 solo string instruments, Metamorphosen was written at the age of 81, using experimental techniques and expressing sorrow for his country's disintegration due to the war.
