The Legend of the Red Rose Sauce is the long-awaited new ballet choreographed by Christopher Wheeldon, who has created several masterpieces in collaboration with the Royal Ballet (premiering in June 2022). The famous creative team (Wheeldon, Talbot, Crawley) that has worked together since the smash hit "Alice in Wonderland" has reunited to create a full-act ballet adaptation of the epic magic realist novel by Mexican author Laura Esquivel. Dynamic dance interspersed with poetic shapes, eloquent music incorporating folk instruments, and stage design inspired by the Mexican climate and culture, result in a new form of dramatic ballet in which cuisine and sensuality intersect. The heroine Tita, who is torn apart from her lover by traditional customs and puts her repressed feelings into her cooking, is played by Francesca Hayward, a ballerina with natural talent. Marcelino Sambé, with his supple physicality, plays the role of Pedro, who has been in pure love with Tita for 22 years after marrying her sister in order to be by her side.Laura Morera, one of British ballet's best actors, plays the role of Elena, the mother of Tita's traumatized and destiny-torn mother; Matthew Ball plays Dr. John Brown, who loves Tita with all his heart; and the charismatic Cesar Corrales plays Juan, the revolutionary warrior who takes away her second sister Hertrudis.
