Although surrounded by many friends, Schubert remained a bachelor for the rest of his life. There are only a few stories about the women in his life. What were Schubert's thoughts on women and love? This album explores Schubert's views on women by selecting songs and lyrics written about women from his surviving songs and lyrics. The songs include Mignon, a girl in Goethe's "Wilhelm Meister's Apprenticeship," and Grätchen, the heroine in Goethe's "Faust," as well as the abandoned and lamenting lover in "The Lost Child. Then there are the dainty women, including Louise and the nameless maiden who mourns after being abandoned by her lover. There are no bewitching women or witches. The Austrian singer Claudia Tandl sings these songs with great expressiveness. The reading by the famous actor Gabriele Jacobi adds to the story. Naxos Japan
