Description:
David Perez of Naples, three years older than Emanuel Bach and Gluck, was a great opera composer who enjoyed great popularity during his lifetime, and his fame spread as far away as Vienna. In 1754, after the Lisbon earthquake, his operas became almost unsustainable, and he turned to religious music to express his talents, resulting in masterpieces of church music similar to the operas of the Neapolitan school. The Morning Prayer for the Dead, which was brought to the light of day by the Ghislieri Consort, is an important prayer music that was performed on what is now called Halloween. While the gorgeous orchestral accompaniment, which included horns and bassoons, was accompanied by a rich performance of ancient instruments, the vocal part, which moves between chorus and solo singing, was performed by the famous singer Roberta Invernizzi, who sang with great brilliance. This is an album full of joyful discovery, similar to the recordings of Pergolesi and Yommelli, which were later released by the same ensemble on Arcana. Naxos Japan
