Description:
Schreker, a Bohemian composer of Jewish descent, reigned supreme in the Viennese music scene as an outstanding opera composer at the beginning of the 20th century, and the success of his opera "Far Away", premiered in 1912, cemented his reputation. The same year, he was appointed professor at the Vienna Conservatory, and his life seemed to be smooth sailing. However, after the failure of "The Mad Flame," premiered in 1923, his life began to decline, and he was swept away by anti-Semitism, losing his professorship and other disappointments in his later years, until his death at the young age of 55. His works were sealed off until the end of the 20th century, but recently his "decadent music" has been reevaluated and his works are being reissued. As symbolized by the titles of his operas, his style is sensual, using chromatic scales to the utmost limit, and is characterized by a modern expression that sometimes sounds like French Impressionism. This album contains his early works as well as his last works, and you can enjoy to your heart's content the variety and beauty of his harmonies, which seem to have been further developed from Wagner's sound.
