The band, which has gained significant support here in Japan—their first Japan tour in 2024 sold out immediately—presents the album. The simultaneously released track "Fundraiser" is Bar Italia's most thrilling song to date, blending blistering speed with hook-laden soundscapes. A music video featuring British actor Matt King has also been unveiled, incorporating imagery reminiscent of their third album, Tracey Denim. The album's artist photos were also taken by renowned photographer Rankin, known for his work with Queen Elizabeth II, David Bowie, and Pulp. 'Some Like It Hot' is the title of the 1959 film starring Marilyn Monroe, Tony Curtis, and Jack Lemmon, depicting the adventures of free-spirited musicians.Humor, sex appeal, raucous energy, and timeless universality come together in this masterpiece, where three distinct stars race through it at full throttle. And 'Some Like It Hot' is also the title of the new album by the London-based trio Bar Italia. The common thread between these two works may not be a coincidence. Bar Italia, who released two albums and several singles and EPs online through Dean Brand's WORLD MUSIC label, enjoyed cult popularity thanks to their overflowing talent, yet remained a mysterious presence active at the epicenter of the London underground.The band's musical evolution has progressed from early self-produced recordings reminiscent of hand-drawn sketches (they even held an exhibition of their own drawings in 2023) to the grand touch of albums like Some Like It Hot. Back in 2023, when Bar Italia released two critically acclaimed albums, 'Tracey Denim' and 'The Twits', within months of each other on Matador Records, backed by underground support, they were a shy band that avoided even making eye contact. They would start playing in the dark and vanish backstage immediately after finishing. But over the next two years, they played sold-out shows in New York and Los Angeles, headlined their first Japan show at Tokyo's WWW X (which sold out instantly), and performed at world-class festivals like Glastonbury and Coachella. Performing over 160 shows from 2023 to 2024, they shattered their mysterious image and evolved into a commanding five-piece live band, earning multiple encores.It's no exaggeration to say they are the band to watch right now, having spread their fame far beyond the UK to Japan and America. Bar Italia blends serious, sincere themes with the joy of showmanship. Their songs create elation by weaving individuality into massive choruses, blurring the lines between self-expression, emotion, and performance. The 1959 Hollywood film that inspired the album's title closes with this iconic line: "Nobody's perfect." But this album comes as close as it gets.
