Phantom Limb, the release company for this work, is fortunate to have a connection with Julius' certain brother Jerry Eastman, and in hopes of continuing the current trend of appreciation that seeks to revive Eastman's rightful place in 20th century composition, this new project was launched in the 2021 began in the summer of 2021. Lorraine will then be given the opportunity to use Eastman's original compositions (courtesy of Jerry Eastman), ReneeLevine-Packer & Mary Jane Leach's enlightening biography Gay Guerilla (University of Rochester Press, 2015), a converted MIDI soundtrack (Phantom Limb A&R, courtesy of James Vella), and the resulting album, Building Something Beautiful For Me, brings the light of Eastman's talent to life with subtlety and sensitivity. Lorraine takes inspiration from samples, melodic motifs, themes, images, and the Eastman canon, slicing, editing, and chopping up samples, playing them like instruments, and worshiping Eastman's talent, while still managing to create a wonderful album in her own style. She has created.The sound of the band's songs, which seem to cross between stillness and movement, is a mix between Lorraine James and her other name, Whatever The Weather. Two musicians who speak the same language as a young, gay, black (Lorraine is a queer black woman) independent creator in a challenging environment are inextricably linked, despite a five-and-a-half year gap in their lives (Lorraine was born in 1995). Lorraine has included Eastman's original titles for many of the songs, indicating the originals in brackets, clearly indicating the genealogy of the work from the heavenly to the sublime. The album packaging, inspired by the margins of Eastman's manuscript paper, features acclaimed black designer Dennis McInnes (Phantom Limb follows Eastman's important code and uses a black creator to complete the record).
