Description:

A stunning and passionate performance with Saraste & the prestigious WDR Symphony Orchestra Cologne! Daniel Müller-Schott, one of Germany's most talented cellists, has released a new album of Prokofiev and Britten cello concertos. The highlights are Prokofiev's Cello Concerto No. 2 and Britten's Cello Symphony, both of which are dedicated to Rostropovich. Both works were dedicated to Rostropovich, and are masterpieces of virtuosic passages that run through a wide range of registers and melodies as majestic as the flow of a great river. The performance of intelligence and passion that captivated the audience in Britten's Suite for Unaccompanied Cello (ORFEO835111) is still present in this recording! The extended resonance produced by the supple, force-free bowing, the tone that does not become thin even in the upper register, the vividness of the attack... Müller-Schott's strengths are fully demonstrated in this performance, which draws you in.The dashing and superbly executed playing of the second movement of the Prokofiev is superb! The development from the 3rd movement of Britten to the 4th movement of Atacca is also wonderful, reminding us of the depth of expressive power that Müller-Schott possesses. The instrument used was again the famous Goffriller! The thick, lustrous sound of the bass gives Müller-Schott's performance even more depth, and the heavy sound that thunders deep into the body is superb. The cello solo as well as the magnificent orchestral part, which is just as strong as the solo cello, is a major highlight of this program. Müller-Schott has collaborated with many masters in the past, but this time she will be joined by the proud Finnish master Saraste and the WDR Symphony Orchestra of Cologne! Müller-Schott's fresh and powerful solo will be complemented by an energetic sound that will make you want to bite into the cello solo in the magnificent tutti section. The final climax of the fourth movement of the Britten is a masterpiece of power! The final movement of Britten's fourth movement is a masterpiece of power and passion, leaving a sweet aftertaste that reverberates through the hall even after the piece is over. Daniel Müller-Schott, born in Munich in 1976, is a cellist of great talent who has attracted attention for his outstanding performance among the younger generation. In 1992, at the age of 15, he won the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians, which brought him to prominence, and he has performed with such greats as Previn, the late Kreizberg, Haitink, Marriner, Ashkenazy, and many others. Müller-Schott is a dashing performer of everything from Bach to Britten and Shostakovich, and has already made a name for herself internationally as a soloist. She is scheduled to give her first recital in Japan in four years in February 2013, and is a must-see artist to keep an eye on in the future!
