This collection of orchestral works by Vaughan Williams and Elgar, conducted by Michael Stern—the beloved son of Isaac Stern—is now available on 200-gram heavyweight LP. The recording employs the “half-speed master” method, in which mastering and cutting are performed at half the normal speed. Slowing down the process prevents sound quality degradation and results in improved high-frequency response and better stereo balance. The record was pressed at “Quality Record Pressing (Q.R.P.)” in Salina, Kansas, USA. The incidental music for *The Wasps* is based on Aristophanes’ play and has been rearranged into a suite consisting of an overture and four movements. It is also known as the *Aristophanes Suite*. This is one of Vaughan Williams’ early masterpieces, offering a succession of humorous pieces beginning with a highly rewarding overture that brilliantly captures the buzzing sound of wasps, as suggested by the title. The “Fantasia on ‘Greensleeves’” is an independent arrangement of the interlude from Act IV of the opera *Sir John in Love*. “Greensleeves” is a late 16th-century folk song about a flirtatious woman wearing a green-sleeved dress; this fantasia was composed in 1908. Elgar’s “Enigma Variations” is, of course, a masterpiece, and the Kansas City Symphony, led by Stern, delivers a performance meticulously crafted down to the finest detail. King International
