Description:
After making his Concord debut in 2011 with the album "State of Art," bassist Ben Williams has finally completed his long-awaited second album, which won the Thelonious Monk Competition in 2009 and was signed to Concord. This is the second album by the up-and-coming bassist, who recently won a Grammy Award in 2013 as the bass player in Pat Metheny's latest unit, "Unity Band". The album again weaves together elements of jazz, hip-hop, rock, and soul, this time including covers of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and Lianne La Havas' "Lost & Found". The other nine tracks are all Williams originals. Many special guests also participate. Vibraphonist Stefon Harris, trumpeter Christian Scott, soul singer Goapele, and emcee/poet W.Ellington Felton, among others. 30-year-old Williams says, "My career as a bandleader and composer began when I won the I started my career as a bandleader and composer when I won the Monk Competition.I was given the opportunity to tell something, and at the same time it became my duty to do so." The Washington Post praised him as "a musician who successfully translates the musical sentiments of his generation into jazz!" raved.
