Russ Freeman was a famous supporting pianist on the West Coast in the 1950s. Art Pepper, Chet Baker, Shelley Mann, and other West Coast jazz stars invariably played with him, leaving behind masterpieces. This is a CD full of such rare recordings of Freeman as a leader. His playing, which he had performed with Charlie Parker as a teenager, is based on Bud Powell, with influences from Horace Silver and Hampton Hawes.
