Description:
The "Preziosa" series, which re-releases "rare" recordings on the MDG label, is a series of definitive Rossini recordings by Consortium Classicum, a group of superb musicians. The first is Rossini's "Little Solemn Mass" (MDG-102000329), recorded in 1976 and conducted by Hermann Kreutz; the second is Bartók and Britten (MDG-10201802), conducted by Jerzy Maximiuk and the Polish Chamber Orchestra; and the third is Rossini's wind quartets by the chamber ensemble Consortium Classicum, formed by Dieter Krecker. The "Preziosa" series is fascinating in that it includes an engineer's and producer's note that looks back on those days, and Werner Dubbelhaus, one of the founders of the MDG label, recalls, "One fine day in 1985, I was in the middle of a concert at a concert hall in the city of London. "One good day in 1985, I received a phone call." I am Dieter Krecker of Consortium Classicum..." He said. As soon as I ended the call I booked the church in Honrath. It was a great offer for a young label like ours at the time, so we took the job on. This was the beginning of a new relationship between the MDG label and Consortium Classics. The new release is a collection of Rossini's wind quartets. A wind quartet is a quartet of flutes, clarinets, horns, and bassoons, minus the oboe from a wind quintet, and the most famous piece in this arrangement is Rossini's set included here. In the Consortium Classicum is Dieter Klecker, a virtuoso and rare clarinet musicologist who has unearthed unknown works. The virtuoso Hans-Wolfgang Dünschede was a flutist and piccolo player with the Berlin Philharmonic from 1976 to 2002. Klaus Warendorf, who was also a horn player with the Berlin Philharmonic from 1980 to 2014. The ensemble was composed of the leading German bassoonist, Karl-Otto Hartmann. This is the definitive recording of Rossini's wind quartets. King International
