Description:

It's like a world trip through the ages with music. A world of genre-crossing music by wind instrumental prodigy Sven Bergjell and his friends! The Musica Rediviva label is headed by Satoko Fujimoto-Berjel, a Japanese woman living in Gothenburg, Sweden. The title of the album is taken from "Music and Handicrafts," a store in his hometown of Uuscha, where Sven bought his first instrument. The album is like a musical journey through the ages, from the Middle Ages to the present day, and it is a delightful musical world that only Bergjell can describe. Sven Bergjell was born in 1938 in Ussher in the Dalarna region, known as "the treasure house of folk songs" and "the home of the Swedish soul.He is one of the pioneers in the field of classical music, having founded such ensembles as "JoculatoresUpsalienses" and "Convivium Musicum Gothenburgense" (Gothenburg Music Banquet). After retiring in 2003 from his longtime teaching position at the Gothenburg School of Music, his wife Satoko had been longing to record Sven's "everyday expression," and her young friends were sympathetic to her idea. Following the "Prelude," which is accompanied by birdsong, the album features 30 pieces of music that Sven had been familiar with since childhood, and that he encountered at various times in his life, and that will always remain dear to him.Polska, danced by the Swedish people; a folk song that sings, "O flowers of joy, in the dark brown land, Oh, they shall never decay"; a waltz by composer Lille Bruhl Söderlund, who left many songs; a waltz by his native Spellman; songs by the minstrels; a standard number by George Gershwin and Hoagy Carmichael standard numbers, a number dedicated to legendary jazz pianist Jan Juhansson, who once invited him to join his band, and a song that "Satoko and Sven" met on their honeymoon to Japan. ...... A wide range of songs from a wide range of genres that Sven, whenever he feels like it, picks up an instrument and blows on it. All are arranged by Sven Bergjell. The recording engineer was Sven Jansson of "Helicopter Studios", who handled the sessions for Musica Rediviva for the first time. This is a wonderful recording that captures the diverse instruments played by Sven and friends in their true size and texture, and brings their music and the atmosphere of the session to the listener in a very realistic way.
