Stephen Isserlis, one of England's most famous cellists, has been releasing an album with an elaborate theme each time. The album entitled "Proust's Salon Music" focuses on the French writer Marcel Proust (1871-1922). The program was performed in Japan in November 2018 to great acclaim. It was also performed at Wigmore Hall in October 2020. It will be performed by Connie See, who also performed in Japan in a breathtaking performance. Proust was a devotee of all the arts and a passionate music lover. The works recorded here include sonatas by Faure, with whom Proust corresponded extensively, Saint-Saëns, and Franck, as well as works by Arn, Duparc, and Ormes, all of whom he admired greatly. Isserlis' excellent performance of the music loved by Proust, who had a very sensitive and well-honed sensibility, will be heard here.Isserlis has released several highly acclaimed albums on the BIS label, including "Cello Music of the War Years" (BIS SA-2312) and "Martineau's Cello Sonatas" (BIS SA-2042).
