Ensemble 96 (Vocal Ensemble)

Description:

A prayer for "peace" by voice and saxophoneTransparent sounds echoing through the church, immersed in delicate reverberationsRecordingsThe Oslo chamber choir Ensemble 96 was formed as a 26-member chamber choir, and has been recognized for its activities to spread "music of today" through concerts and recordings. The group's two albums, "Immortal NYSTEDT" (2L 029SACD) and "KIND" (2L 076SABD), have been nominated for Grammy Awards in the categories of Best Choral Performance and Best Surround Sound, and have received international recognition. Ensemble 96 and conductor Nina T. Karlsen have been presenting a concert entitled "Peace/Fred" every fall since 2011. The saxophone quartet Current, whose name means "current, current, trendy," and who, like Nina T. Karlsen, work to establish contemporary music, has participated in the "Peace" concerts twice since their formation in 2010.The album "PAX," titled "Peace" in Latin, is the result of a collaboration between the two groups. The concept of the album is "a new work by Norwegian composers, each contemplating the theme of peace, brought to life by an ensemble of music, lyrics, and the sacred space of the cathedral. Martin Odegaard's "PAX (Peace)" is a commentary on Schoenberg's "Frieden auf Erden (Peace on Earth)," with the two words "pax" and "friede" (peace). The text of "Lux (Light)," from the liturgical text of the Requiem, "May you enter into the happiness of eternal light," is performed by a saxophone quartet, double chorus, and three female voices. Cecilie Ore's "Speak LOUDER! Give birth, multiply, fill the earth ......" (chapter 1, verse 28), and the chorus and solo singers sing lyrics that focus on "giving voice to the threat of extinction of species that affect the earth's ecology.A Current Peace was composed by jazz pianist Eyolf Dale for the Current Saxophone Quartet during the COVID-19 pandemic.
