French composer Jan Tilsen is one of the most popular and notable film music writers of recent years. His emotional and melancholy music shows the influence of folk music, French chansons, musette waltzes, street music, and the minimalism of Satie, Glass, and Nyman. Tilssen's international breakthrough came with the music for the French blockbuster "Amélie," which was followed by a string of hits, including "Goodbye, Lenin! and other hits followed. The new albums, "Eusa" and "Kerber," were inspired by the small island of Wessan, where Tilsen lives. Eusa" is the Breton word for the island of Wessan, and "Kerber" refers to the small chapel on the island. Tilsen skillfully captures the isolation of this small island, the desolate landscape of the barren land, and the implications of this small island when looking out into the vastness of space and the stars. Dutch pianist and minimalist pioneer Jeroen van Veen plays the piano in a unique way, creating an effect that is focused, serene, and seemingly inducing a deep sleep.
