Magaloff’s great legacy, vividly capturing his rich musicality and technique. A collection of Chopin’s renowned masterpieces. Magaloff is particularly renowned for his interpretations of Chopin, and these concert hall recordings fall between his DECCA recordings from the mono era and his groundbreaking complete Chopin cycle recorded for the PHILIPS label from 1974 to 1978. Not only are these recordings a testament to his prime—he was over 50 at the time of recording—but they are also superb recordings that more fully reflect his sincerity toward music. In addition to 10 solo works, the album features a new pairing with the orchestral version of “Krakowiak.” This is a reissue after more than 20 years. Magaloff’s students included Argerich, Ingrid Hebler, and Maria Tipo, and he was also an outstanding teacher. It is said that his performances, approached with a consistently sincere attitude toward the works, bring out the inherent charm of the pieces to the fullest. When listening to Magarov’s playing—free of forced dynamics or stagnant tempos—you will be captivated by his elegant and refined style (though some may call it “old-fashioned”). In addition to the 10 solo pieces from the original album, this release includes the orchestral version of “Krakowiak,” which was previously released as a coupling with Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 1 (already available on TWCO-50). Both Magaloff’s performance and the accompanying orchestra deliver a performance of the highest caliber. The recording was originally made with microphones positioned close to the instrument, and this new remastering has further enhanced the clarity of the sound and the richness of the inner voices. You’ll be able to experience Magarov’s masterful artistry even more fully.
