The playful "Cosi fan tutte" by up-and-coming German director Jan-Philipp Groeger, the new 2016 Royal Opera production marks the first time maestro Bishkov has conducted this work. Known as an ensemble opera, this production features a group of young singers, including Winters, Brauer, Behle, and Arduni, all of whom are currently rising in popularity. Each sang as expected, and beautifully portrayed the romantic comedy between the two couples. Puertolas as Despina is charming, but special mention should be made of Johannes Martin Krenzle, the famous German baritone and comic genius, who plays Don Alfonso. In a modern production and a delightful stage that changes in many ways, he deftly handles the four protagonists as they test the fidelity of each other's lovers. With Japanese subtitles. Naxos Japan
