The "dollar" in this title literally refers to the American unit of currency. This operetta is a delightful musical operetta about the turmoil surrounding Mr. John Coder, an American who has become rich in the coal economy. Mr. Corder, a somewhat haughty but actually complex man, takes great care not to let himself be looked down upon by hiring people from good European families. His daughter Alice, perhaps because she has seen such a father up close, is unrelenting, no matter what kind of man he is. Freddy, a German aristocrat (now a retired man), loves Alice, but he is unable to tell her how he feels because of their different social statuses. Then a countess comes to Mr. Coder and offers herself as his future wife. In fact, she is Olga, a cabaret singer in Berlin and Freddy's former mistress.So, how will this story turn out? Leo Fal (1873-1925) was an Austrian composer and one of the most famous figures of the golden age of operetta. He studied at the Vienna Conservatory under Robert Fuchs and his brother, Johann Nepomuk Fuchs, and gained a foothold in the music world by marrying the daughter of Zalomon Jaderszohn in 1904.
