Description:

This is the eighth release of #bruckner2024, an initiative of the CAPRICCIO label and the International Bruckner Society to record all Bruckner symphonies in their entirety by 2024, the 200th anniversary of Bruckner's birth. Following the previously released and well-received first and second drafts, this CD brings together the three drafts of Bruckner's Symphony No. 4 in the latest Korstvedt edition. The third draft of Symphony No. 4 was once called a "falsified version" because Bruckner revised it based on the opinions of his pupils, Leve and the Schalk brothers, etc. However, Coastwet rejects such a view and regards the third draft as a practical revision by Bruckner himself based on his actual performance experience. Poschner's third manuscript is a practical revision by Bruckner himself based on his actual performance experience. Poschner clearly shows the changes in the music, such as the difference in tempo between the slow and fast movements, while using a faster tempo as the basis, thus proving Korstvedt's idea in the sound. In addition to the comparison with the first and second drafts conducted by Poschner, we can also enjoy listening to the performances by other ensembles such as Frusha/Bamberg Symphony Orchestra and Vänskä/Minnesota Orchestra, which adopted the third draft. The domestic edition will be accompanied by a Japanese-language commentary by Yutaro Ishihara (a member of the International Bruckner Society), who has been well-received by specialist magazines.
