Nacho Duato's revised choreography of "La Bayadere"] In the fall of 2019, the Mikhailovsky Theatre in St. Petersburg premiered a revised choreography of the much talked about "La Bayadere" by contemporary ballet prodigy Nacho Duato. This video is the third recording of the performance, following "The Nutcracker" (BAC125/BAC425) and "The Sleeping Beauty" (BAC131/BAC431), in Duato's classical ballet choreography series. While respecting Hudecoff's script and Petipa's original choreography, Duato has taken the position of leaving out the controversial scene of the fall of the temple in this production, and has also made bold cuts to accelerate the development of the story through his own interpretation. This makes almost all of the characters dynamic, and the speedy development of the story, with its abundance of folk dances, sheds a novel light on this masterpiece ballet for the modern age. Nikiya is played by Angelina Vorontsova, who also participated in the 2019 Mikhailovsky Theatre Ballet's tour of Japan, where she performed a dance that is both lovely and powerful.Andrea Razakov's proud Gamzatti, newcomer Victor Lebedev's Solor, and other talented dancers in the leading roles, combined with Atrasik's beautiful stage design, will lure the audience into an exotic and dreamlike world.
