Kyo Arishima, a pianist from Kumamoto Prefecture who studied in Poland after graduating from Toho Gakuen School of Music in Kumamoto, has been a hot topic of conversation since her entry in the 2015 International Chopin Piano Competition, where she passed the first round. Her debut album on the STEINWAY label features one of the most famous piano works from her native Japan, Toru Takemitsu's "The Rain Tree Sketches," as well as works from Poland, her current base of activities. The album includes "Funakata," which was well-received at the Chopin Competition, as well as works by Chopin and Sellotzky using the twelve-tone technique, which she has played in recitals in Japan and abroad.
