Piau sings modern French songs with an orchestra of period instruments】If we say that "French music is the colorfulness of orchestral music," we should first consider how the orchestras of the time sounded as the composers envisioned them. How delightful it is to have Sandrine Piau as the solo singer in this album, which was produced to make the most of this idea. She says, "I have been a baroque singer, but in fact I have been especially fond of modern French music since I was a child," and Le Conseil de la Loge, which is rapidly gaining attention for its performances of music composed after Mozart using the instruments and techniques of the time, will perform music from the middle of the 19th century onward, including modern French music. After Saint-Saëns and his colleagues founded the National Music Society in 1871, a number of such works were produced in France to fill the lack of "songs with orchestral accompaniment". This disc is an excellent project that uncompromisingly pursues the original orchestral sound of the 19th century in French music, going back to Berlioz's "Summer Nights" for which an orchestral version was published in 1850. It also includes many masterpieces by "forgotten important composers" such as Du Bois, Bordes, and Gilman, who have been attracting attention in recent years.
