La Serenissima was formed in 1994 by Adrian Chandler, a native of Merseyside, England, who studied modern and baroque violin at the Royal College of Music. They have been performing Vivaldi's works in mind since their formation, and this is a re-release on regular CD of an album they released on SACD in 2006. Featuring Scottish soprano Mairi Lawson, the album features Vivaldi's chamber cantatas and sonatas. The two pieces included in the "Graz Sonatas," for which only incomplete scores remain, and which were restored by Chandler himself, were world premiere recordings at the time of their release. The small ensemble of cello, theorbo, and keyboard in addition to the two Chandlers gives us a crisp, well-matched performance. Naxos Japan
