Blood Sweat and Tears was formed in 1967 by Al Kooper, who later became a breakout singer/songwriter, with Steve Katz, Bobby Crombie, Jim Fielder, Randy Brecker and others after he left the Blues Project. Their debut album, released in 1968, was produced by John Simon, a well-known producer who also worked with The Band.
