Description:
The debut album released in 1990 by Um Sangare, a songstress from the Wasl region of southern Mali, is being reissued in analog format!" She made her name with the album "Desert Festival", which sparked the popularity of "Desert Blues", and was supported by Amadou Ba Guindo, leader of the legendary "National Badema" band in Mali at the time. Umu's youthful yet powerful voice is accompanied by the sound of the kamale ngoni, a traditional stringed instrument of Wasl, and she has also established herself as an opinion leader by including lyrics that criticize polygamy and forced marriage in Africa and appealing for the improvement of women's status.
