Rico Friebe is a talented German artist who has established a unique position with his genre-defying and ever-changing releases, from acoustic to R&B to downtempo, etc., after turning from an electronic producer to a singer-songwriter. His latest release is a special album featuring improvisational piano instrumentals that stand out more sensitively than ever! Rico Friebe hails from Kiel, Northern Germany, and has been active at the center of the minimal electronic scene since the 2000s, including releases on the Cocoon label, which is run by Sven Vath, a leading producer. In the past few years, he has suddenly turned into a singer-songwriter and started releasing songs as well. With his unique career and genre-straddling, wide-ranging style, he is slowly establishing a unique position in the music industry. His music has been diverse, ranging from Kings of Convenience-style acoustic, to hard R&B with a wesky beat, to ethereal downtempo, and more. This time, he breaks new ground with an album of improvisational piano instrumentals recorded in a single take.The preceding single "Envoute," in which you can almost hear the murmuring of a clear stream, "Gruides," with its liberating melody dancing lightly, and "Elysees," which depicts an unknown paradise, as well as the soothing piano music gently encourage a feeling of relaxation and meditation. This is a pleasant piece with a simple appearance, richness, a personal inward vector, a unique sense of distance and openness, and a mysterious mood that could resonate with the likes of Gonzalez and Mocky.
