Aussie Pops from 1960's
Description:
In commemoration of the release of "The Bee Gees: The Path to Glory," a compilation of Australian artists with hit songs that were also released in Japan in the 1960s! The Seekers, a folk chorus group with fresh male and female vocals and harmonies and a pop modern folk sound, the Easybeats, who had a big hit with "Friday On My Mind" in the U.S. and U.K. and went global, Olivia Newton-John, who later became a world-famous songstress, and the 'Australian Idols' of the 1960s. Little Patti, who gained popularity as one of the most popular Australian idols of the 1960s, and Col Joey & The Joey Boys, a long-established Australian electric group that backed her, and many other Australian stars of the time, all gathered together on this gorgeous joint album! (Excerpt from the commentary below) In the 1970's, the Australian stars such as Helen Reddy, Rick Springfield andAnd although Olivia Newton-John and others entered the UK and US charts in rapid succession, it was not yet 'felt' at that time. Then came the late 1970s and early 1980s. Little River Band, Air Supply, AC/DC, Men at Work, Crowded House, Split Ends, Flash & the Pans, Icehouse. I remember being very conscious of the fact that "Aussie pop music" was forming a big trend, as I saw artists from Australia such as The Aussie River Band, Air Supply, AC/DC, Men at Work, Crowded House, Split Enz, Flash & The Pans, Icehouse, and many others, all entering the music scene in the U.S. and U.K. and gaining international recognition one after another. In Japan, the band's records were also released and gained popularity no differently from their British and American counterparts. This project focuses on the 1960s, when Australia was not yet a major player in the world music scene. There are groups that went global, stars who ended up only in their hometowns, and others who gained a good reputation in Japan. Although the number of artists is small, this collection mainly includes those whose records were released in Japan at that time. Commentary: Toru Ueshiba
