Live footage of the opening performance of the Pierre Boulez Saal, which opened on March 4, 2017, with great fanfare thanks to the efforts of music director Barenboim! The Pierre Boulez Saal was built in the center of Berlin on the site of the former Berlin State Opera's costume warehouse, and the acoustics were designed by Nagata Acoustics of Japan, which has worked on halls around the world, and the design was done free of charge by Barenboim's friend, the architect Frank Gary. The stage is oval in shape, and the audience seats are movable, so the layout can be changed according to the size of the ensemble or composition. The proximity of the stage to the audience also provides a sense of unity. The hall was also built as a hall attached to the Barenboim Said Academy, a school created by Daniel Barenboim, a music school opened in 2016 by Barenboim, who has long worked for reconciliation between Palestine and Israel through music.
