Fahrmann (1860-1940)
Description:
He was called the father of the Saxon organist, and his compositional technique was so appealing that he has been called the Richard Strauss of the organ. Bernius has devoted many years to the restoration of Feuermann's vocal works, which he says are so important that they are essential to the supply of late-Romantic choral music. Feuermann, the son of Cantor, began piano studies at the age of 5, and studied organ with Chopin's editor Hermann Schulz, composition with Carl August Fischer, and choral music with Jean-Louis Nicode. After studying organ with Carl August Fischer and composition with Jean Louis Nicode, Feuermann became active as an organist and taught young musicians at the Royal Academy of Music in Dresden until 1939. In his lifetime, Feuermann left behind about 90 works. He wrote many songs, choral works, some chamber music, two oratorios, concertos for organ and orchestra, and many organ works.Bernius says that this performance = reproduction of the strict harmonic structure would not have been possible without the help of SWR Stuttgart. All of the works are world premiere recordings. Bernius put a lot of effort into these wonderful performances.
