Spain is a country where various cultures such as Arab, Italian, and French have blended together to create its own unique music. The guitar occupies a special place at the center of this history. In addition, Spanish Baroque music, while influenced by French and Italian influences, retained its Spanish melody and flourished with instrumental and secular songs as well as theater. Songs and dances accompanied by castanets, guitar, Basque drums, and bells were especially popular during church and secular celebrations. The album recorded here includes works by Santiago de Murcia, including his masterpiece "Fandango," as well as works by Bijansico, which means "Christmas song" in Spanish.
