A great opportunity to hear Stravinsky's two piano works all together! Stravinsky's own arrangement of "The Rite of Spring" for two pianos has become a popular repertoire piece for major pianists in recent years, and here we have a rare recording by John-Patrick Milhaud, who himself arranged and recorded the piece for two pianos 35 years ago. Milhaud was a highly skilled and fresh French pianist who died suddenly in 1996 at the age of 43. The more complex two-piano version of "The Rite of Spring" and the technically easier original for two pianos can be enjoyed in Milhaud's performance. Also welcome are the two-piano version of Stravinsky's "Russian Scherzo," which he wrote for jazz band, and Babin's arrangement of "Tango" from a recording by the Russian-born piano duo Vronsky & Babin, which became popular in the United States in the past.The surprisingly serious "Sonata for Two Pianos" can also be enjoyed in a masterful performance by the Kontarsky brothers.
