The "Classical Piano Concerto (CPC)" series started as a sister series of Hyperion's very popular "Romantic Piano Concerto (RPC)" series to discover unknown piano concertos of the classical era. The fifth volume in the series is a sequel to the Dusik (Dusek) concerto, which was also featured in the first volume (CDA 68027). Jan Ladislav Dusik (1760-1812) was loved for his talent by Ekaterina II of Russia and Marie Antoinette of France, but fled to England due to intrigue and revolution, and then eloped with Jean-Baptiste Krumwolz's wife, He was a Bohemian composer whose turbulent life included a second marriage to Sofia Giustina Colli, the bankruptcy of the sheet music publishing company he co-founded with his father-in-law, his flight to Germany, and the decline of his later years.Dusik is well known for his recordings in the "Sonatina Album," and his friendship with English piano maker John Broadwood, his involvement in the development of the "English action," and his establishment of the sideways piano style in concerts, have all contributed to the history of music. Howard Shelley will reveal the unknown side of Dusik. Dusiek's works, which were a precursor to later Romantic piano works by Chopin, Mendelssohn, and others, are recommended not only for fans of classical piano works, but also for fans of Romanticism and the RPC.
