Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's third independent label Holst's "Planets" and "Earth"! The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra gave its memorable first concert in 1906. The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra has a strong connection with Japan, with Hiroyuki Iwashiro serving as Music Director from 1974-97 and Tadaaki Otaka as Music Director from 2009-2012. The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra's third self-labeled release is the world premiere recording of Holst's "The Planets" and Deborah Cheetham Freyon's "The Earth". More than a century after its premiere, Gustav Holst's "The Planets" is one of those rare orchestral works whose title alone can fill a concert hall. From the ferocious intensity of Mars to the otherworldly mysteries of Neptune, the suite takes the listener on a cosmic journey, exploring the emotions and personalities each planet evokes. Deborah Cheetham Frayon is an Aboriginal soprano singer and composer who will serve as the MSO First Nations Creative Chair for five years beginning in 2021, and "Earth Earth" is the seventh work Cheetham has composed for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra This is the seventh work that Cheetham has composed for the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The commission complemented the intent of Holst's Suite "The Planets," adding Earth to the seven movements named after our solar system neighbors.Cheatham sings the text himself, which celebrates the natural beauty of the sparkling earth through instrumental-only parts that seem to wander into the forest, where you can hear the chirping of trees and birdsong, and his clear voice adds power and flair to the performance.
