The album also features five additional previously unreleased tracks, including a cover of Fleetwood Mac's classic "Dreams"! Animal Collective was formed spontaneously by a group of friends in Baltimore in the mid-1990s. Their first album, "Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished", is a collection of songs that have been previously unreleased, including a cover of the "Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished". The band is now reissuing their first album, "Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished"! Originally released on their Animal label in a very small CD format under the name "Avey Tare & Panda Bear," the album has been hailed by Vulture as "a starry-eyed songstress" and Pitchfork as "a masterpiece of electronic fairy tale music. It was an early career masterpiece, hailed by Vulture as "a starry-eyed songbook" and by Pitchfork as "a musical masterpiece of electroacoustic fairy tales. Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished begins with the phrase "I want to hear the secret, I know it," suggesting that the secret is buried deep in high-frequency sounds, electronic glitches and bleeps. Pop hooks coexist with noise, friction, and disorder.Animal Collective began their career with this album and have since become one of the most famous and influential groups of the past two decades, but this debut is a masterpiece of unique character that reminds us of where they came from. This reissue features the latest remastered soundtrack and new artwork by Dave Portner, aka Avi Thea, and his sister, Abby Portner. Disc 2 of the CD also features five previously unreleased songs recorded around the same time as the album, including a cover of Fleetwood Mac's classic "Dreams".
