Description:

Mozart's "Lucio Silla" by Minkowski premiered at La Scala, directed by the brilliant Marshall Pinkowski and featuring the remarkable mezzo Marianne Crevassa! Mozart's opera "Lucio Silla" is set in ancient Rome, with a libretto by Giovanni De Gammella. Composed when Mozart was 16 years old, it was premiered at La Scala in Milan on December 26, 1772. Although it is rarely performed among Mozart's operas today, it was a great success at the time of its premiere, and is said to have been performed as many as 26 times. Handel, Pasquale Anfossi, and Johann Christian Bach also wrote operas based on the same libretto. The content is its story of a Roman dictator's lust and jealousy. The work is about Lucius-Sulla, a politician who exercised dictatorship in ancient Rome around the 1st century BC. The story revolves around five characters: the Roman regent Silla (tenor), the exiled senator Cecilio (soprano/castrato), Cecilio's fiancee Junia (soprano), Silla's sister Celia (soprano), and Cecilio's friend and Cecilio's lover Chinna (soprano). Cecilio's friend and Cecilia's lover, Chinna (soprano). This video was directed by Marshall Pinkowski, conducted by Minkowski and performed at La Scala in Milan, the theater where the production premiered in 2015. Pinkowski set the stage in the 18th century for both art and costumes. Also featured is Marianne Crevassa, a French soprano with a charming and commanding presence. Mozart and his specialty, soprano Reneke Luiten. Veteran tenor Kresimir Spicer and a splendid lineup of soloists. The duets by Reneke and Marianne are especially impressive. Minkowski's eloquent music-making, the outstanding ensemble of the Orchestra della Scala, and the serene chorus made for a very high quality performance. King International
